UltraStore Iron-Air Batteries for Low-Cost Long-Duration Storage

Deadline: 17:00, 5th October 2026

This call for proposals focuses on developing a single cell prototype of an iron-air electrochemical energy storage system with decoupled power and energy, targeting a discharge duration of 100 hrs. It may be particularly relevant for (but not limited to) researchers with expertise in:

  • metal-air batteries
  • fluid dynamics of multi-phase flow
  • redox-flow stacks
  • aqueous battery chemistries
  • alkaline fuel cells
  • suppression of hydrogen evolution
  • aqueous electrolyte design
  • iron metal as an anode
  • Oxygen evolution and oxygen reduction cathode and catalyst development

Projects should apply this expertise to address the fundamental issues associated with iron-air batteries.

Faraday Institution Industry Fellowship

Deadline: 15:00, 1st October 2026

The Industry Fellowships are enabling academics (whether working on Faraday Institution research projects or not) and industrialists to undertake a mutually beneficial and collaborative energy storage research project. University researchers or members of UK industrial organisations are invited to apply for fellowships to advance a defined research project with commercial potential or which solves a critical industrial problem in an area that falls within the Faraday Institution's remit of electrochemical energy storage research.
